How does one traveller set a really good mood during a road trip? Scenery is a given, and a travelling companion is a ‘nice to have’ but not really necessary. I myself like to do road trips alone, but that’s just me. Music, I find is a really good companion when the scenery becomes monotonous. Having a really good song playing on the stereo while zooming on towards the distant horizon seems to make the road trip even more enjoyable.

One thing I can’t live without when going on one of my sporadic road trips is my collection of road trip albums. The roads can be a rich source for sensory overload, the scenery, the green vegetation, the horizon, the blue mountains, and when you’re lucky a majestic sunset– these are enough to occupy the most ardent traveller. But sometimes, I can surely do with a good pick-me-up and that’s when I feed one of these albums to the car stereo.
Eraserheads Anthology – For me the eHeads is the best Filipino Rock Band ever. Ever. This album contains all their best songs and countless times I’ve been playing this album for hours and hours while shouting along (I couldn’t call it singing) with the band until I’m hoarse. I grew up with the ‘Heads so there’s a little bias here but I think they paved the way for a lot of Pinoy rock bands to hit the mainstream. It’s no wonder that even until now when the group has already disbanded, Pinoy music lovers continue their love affair with the band’s many songs.
So Long Astoria, by the Ataris – Now this one is something that you could really turbo-bob your head to. I would jump up and down if I could but it’s no easy feat to do when you’re driving. So Long Astoria talks about young love and breakups and heartaches and all that teenage angst that everyone, one way or another, has gone through. Mix that with some really jumpy melody and you couldn’t help but, well, jump. At least in your seat. So Long Astoria is an album that the Ataris released in 2003.
The Best of The Beach Boys – Ok I pull out this one when I’m going to the beach. Very very calming album I think. Aruba, Jamaica, ooh I wanna take ya to Bermuda, Bahama, come on pretty momma. Enough! This is an oldie band I know, but the Boys were reintroduced to the younger set via hit films such as Tom Cruise’s Cocktails featuring the song Kokomo (sample lyrics above) and then again in Adam Sandler’s 50 First Dates also starring the forever cute, Brew Darrymore. The Beach Boys..
I’m not sure if you folks share my road trip soundtrack preferences, but there they are! BTW, if you have some really good road trip soundtrack suggestions, do let me know!

Have you heard about the Moriones Festival In Marinduque? Do you know that the provincial government has several projects related to ecotourism? http://www.huliq.com July 22, 2009. In addition, have you heard of Bellarocca Resort and Spa- the most luxurious and expensive resort in South East Asia? It is located in Buenavista, Marinduque.

Hi Katague, yes I've been to Marinduque for that festival a couple of years back. Sadly this blog wasn't in existence then. Seems to me like a new visit is in order.

Hahaha, I think almost everyone has gone through that 'mix tape' phase. These days they call it a playlist but it's all the same I think.

A lot of new things the last two years is happening in Marinduque in the field of tourism and travel . A lot of Filipino-Americans expatriates, Europeans, and Americans are settling in Marinduque in their retirement years.

Hey there!
Great post. I found your site through EntreCard. Isn't it fantastic?
Anyway, I really like US summer songs as my road trip buddies as of late. To name a few, “The Sweet Escape” by Gwen Stefani, and “I Gotta Feeling” by The Black Eyed Peas are very appealing to road trip lovers.

Hi, a very enjoyable read. A road trip will never be the same without great music. I am heading off on my second road trip in the States soon and am already compiling great CDs to bring. The road could be very quiet otherwise / Travelbug @ http://igotthetravelbug2009.blogspot.com/
