    and I have no idea what plane to take from States.

    Hi Nick, that's easy enough. Just get the Philippine Airlines flight to Manila (check out http://philippineairlines.com). From Manila, get a flight to Butuan City (there are daily flights same airline). From Butuan, go to the Bus terminal, then take the bus going to Mangagoy, there's one bus going there every hour I think. Once you're in Mangagoy should be easy for you.
